Hernias of the abdominal wall
Inguinal hernias
It is a condition that occurs when abdominal
contents protrude through a soft spot in the
muscles of the lower abdomen.
Symptoms
- Groin pain that gets worse when coughing, bending, lifting, and sneezing.
- A lump that comes and goes while lying down.

Incisional hernias
An incisional hernia is a type of hernia that arises in the
region of the scar from abdominal surgery. This occurs
thanks to excessive tension and incorrect healing
in the abdominal wall.
Due to the muscle cut, the abdominal wall is weakened
and making it easier for the intestine or any other organ
that is below the incision to move and press on the area
of the scar, causing a small swelling in this region.
Symptoms
- Pain or discomfort in the area of the hernia
- nausea and vomiting
- Fever below 39°C
- Difficulty urinating
- Alterations in intestinal transit, with constipation or diarrhea
Ventral hernias
Ventral hernias are those that appear in the wall
abdominal. Most of the time this kind of hernia
disappears on its own within 2 years, in case this
does not happen, we have to perform the procedure.
Ventral hernias can be the following: hernia
epigastric hernia, umbilical hernia, incisional hernia, and
Spigelian hernia, although all of them are located
in the area of the abdomen.
symptoms
The symptoms of hiatal hernia are attributed
mainly to reflux disease gastroesophageal or
movement of stomach acids in the esophagus.
- Swelling or a lump in the abdomen or above your belly button
- Abdominal pain
- vomiting
- Constipation
- Fever or chills
Umbilical hernias
Es una condición en la que una parte del intestino es
desplazada y sobresale a través de la pared de la
cavidad alrededor del ombligo.
It is a condition in which a part of the intestine is
displaced and protrudes through the wall of the
cavity around the navel.
Symptoms
- Lumps over the hernia site are often visible but sometimes not
- Pain may occur especially if the hernia is strangulated or obstructed
- The symptoms are considered serious and require immediate medical attention if the lump is soft swollen or discolored.
